Scriptures of God’s Promises and Words Of Encouragement

Matthew 4:35-41

The Disciples Forgot:

1. What Jesus said: Verse 35 – “Let us go across to the other side.” – Isaiah 41:10, Deuteronomy 31:8, John 16:33, Matthew 11:28-29
2. They forgot where Jesus was – Verse 36 – In the boat! –Deuteronomy 31:6, Joshua 1:9
3. They forgot what Jesus can do – Verse 39 – He calmed the storm! –Jeremiah 32:37, Luke 1:37

1. Receive the Truths of the Gospel as it was passed down to them.  Galatians 1:8
2. Stop pointing out everyone else’s sins, and start confessing their own. Matthew 7:1-5
3. Watch their words, and know when to speak.  James 3:2
4. Less dependent on themselves, and increasingly dependent on Christ.  John 15
5. Make every effort to build on their faith.  James 4:8

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue,  and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

If you are a mature Christian or want to assess where you are on a scale, ask yourself “What am I doing with my faith?”  Are you in neutral, just idling at the stop sign?  You gotta put your foot on the gas and push the pedal.  God has much more for you than just attending a study once a week on Wednesday mornings and watching a Zoom service Sunday online!!!
