What is Discipleship?

In Matthew chapter 28, Jesus leaves his disciples with a final instruction: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” Discipleship is the process of intentionally multiplying Christ-like followers. It’s a call directly from Jesus Christ to be His disciple and to help others do the same. Be one. Make one. As one.

In the Bible it is very clear about what Jesus calls us to do. Walking alongside another brother and bringing them closer to Christ is one of the most amazing gifts that we have as Christians. This requires men to grow in their faith, memorize scripture, and be open to sharing not only the great things that are going on in their lives but also their challenges. In the Bible, Proverbs 27:17 states, “As Iron Sharpen Iron, One Man Sharpens Another.” This is what discipleship is all about but it takes commitment and work to make it effective.

Discipleship sessions usually meet weekly to discuss life, scripture, and what was read in the books. This will take time commitment not only for the meeting but outside of your meetings to read and memorize scripture. Remember, Jesus calls us to be disciplemakers, so what are you waiting for, let’s get started today!
